Facebook, Twitter and the Internet are the Keys to Real Estate
I read an interesting post today about a National Association of Realtors survey that was recently released. Bob Hale, President and CEO of HAR (Houston Association of Realtors) spoke at a meeting about the challenges facing the real estate industry. To make a long story short it was about how 41% of home buyers found their property without the help of a Realtor.
The main points in the article were:

Our Social Networking links
- Most Realtors are failing to capitalize on using Facebook, Twitter and the Internet as a medium for daily business
- Some business models are going to have to change due to technology induced changes and
- 65% of those buying homes are under 44 years old and most are between the ages of 25-34 years old.
Bob Hale went on to say that to reach those age groups that one has to think like the 30 year old who would use our services.
After reading the article I began to think was I doing enough as a Realtor to keep up with the technology induced changes. At the same time I started to think about other agents who I have worked with over the years and how they are keeping up with the changes. To be honest, I’d have to say most of them are not keeping up with the changes. Most seasoned agents who were use to the offline marketing still use the offline marketing, but it is not as effective anymore.
I am sure most seasoned agents have a referral base, but how are they using or are they using Facebook, Twitter and the Internet to get the other 59% of customers who will use a Realtor to purchase a home. Also, how will that seasoned agent who is use to offline marketing get in front of the 65% who are buying homes between the ages of 25-44.
The answer is they have to up their game. As the saying goes…”You have to be in it to win it”. I am in the game, but I need to continue to practice with a good hard work ethic to reap the rewards. Thus the reason for this blog. I am not a frequent blogger, but now I will start blogging more often. Not just to blog, but also for the benefit of SEO.
