the city to hopefully help you to understand how to navigate through the City of Houston and surrounding areas. You
can use the map to break the City of Houston real state into four sections. Looking at the map Interstate 10 (I-10)
runs east and west and separates the city into North and South halves. Interstate 45 (I-45) to Hwy 288 south and
Hwy 59 run north and south and separates the city into east and west halves. City of Houston has two loops that
loop the inner and outer parts of town. Loop 610 is the inner loop and Beltway 8 is the outer loop. There is also a
Grand Parkway that is even a bigger, but it does not loop the greater outer area yet. Hwy 290 runs northwest and
southwest, but ends at the 610 Loop and there are other toll ways and Hwys that are not mentioned. The four
sections can be broken down as follows:
-
Northwest Houston - Land north of I-10 and west of I-45 north including Hwy 290 north
-
Northeast Houston - Land north of I-10 and east of I-45 north including Hwy 59
north
-
Southwest Houston - Land south of I-10 and west of Hwy 288 south including Hwy 59 S.
-
Southeast Houston - Land south of I-10 and east of Hwy 288 south including I-45 S.
Below are some common terms the interstate's and highways are referred to by Houstonian's
-
Hwy 59 N - is referred to as the Eastex Fwy (takes you to East Texas)
-
Hwy 59 S - is referred to as the Southwest Fwy (take a wild guess)

There are also some toll roads that take you different places around the City of Houston. These
highways and Freeways lead you to other greater areas. Hwy 59 S. takes you to the land of Sugar "Sugarland" and
Missouri City referred to by some as Moe-City. Hwy 288 leads you to Missouri City and Pearland. I-45 south leads
you to Pearland, Friendswood, League City, Texas City and Galveston. Hwy 59 north leads you to Humble and Kingwood.
I-45 North leads you to Spring, The Woodlands and Conroe. Hwy 290 leads you to the Cypress and Jersey Village
areas. I-10 west leads you to the Katy and Cinco Ranch subdivisions. Houston is a large Metropolitan area with
small towns within such as Bellaire, West University and South Houston to name a few.
Use the map to become more familiar with the Greater Houston area whether you live in town or you
are coming from out of town to move here. Houston is so large and diverse it would take several pages to explain
all the different areas that the greater Houston area has to offer.
